Short answer: The travel symbols only show when we know you study enough this semester, on a programme that qualifies for student aid (CSN). Meet the requirements but no symbol? Upload this semester's certificate in the app and we update your card within 5 working days.

Both study pace and credits must match, and the programme must qualify for student aid from CSN. If you study less than 50 %, you get Studentkortet and all discounts, but no travel symbols.
You meet the requirements but have no symbol
Then we haven't received your study pace for this semester. If you take a student loan from CSN we usually get it automatically. Otherwise, show it yourself:
- Open the app and go to Profile > Edit profile.
- Scroll down and tap “Är du student?”
- Upload this semester's certificate. Studying at more than one school? Upload all certificates and we add up your study pace.
We review the certificate within 5 working days. Once it's approved, the symbols appear on your card. Tap the round arrow next to your card under My card to fetch the new one. You don't need to email us.

These don't give travel symbols
- Upper secondary school (gymnasiet): you travel on a youth ticket and don't need the symbols. Choose “Youth” when you buy your ticket.
- SFI: gives no travel symbols, even if you study full time. See why below.
- Nyexad and GenZ: these cards give no travel discounts. Still studying? Upload this semester's certificate as above.
Studying SFI?
Many people studying SFI full time wonder why their card has no travel symbols. SFI gives no travel symbols, however much you study.
- Why? The transport operators decide who gets student fares, not us. They require a programme that qualifies for student aid from CSN, and SFI doesn't. So we can't add the symbols, even if your certificate says 100 %.

What you get: Studentkortet with all discounts in the app, and the SJ logo for student fares with SJ.
- Also studying SAS or other Komvux courses? Those courses can give travel symbols if they meet the requirements above. Upload certificates that show them.
- When you finish SFI and start SAS or another programme, upload the new certificate. If you meet the requirements, you get the symbols.
We can't make exceptions for SFI, so you don't need to email us about it. How to apply when you study SFI
Good to know
- The symbol is valid until your last day of study this semester, even if the card itself is valid longer.
- At a ticket check, show your card in the app and valid ID.
- Under 26? With SJ you can also choose a youth fare. Then your ID is enough.
- Studentkortet is not responsible for discounts used without the right symbol on the card.
